How Much Does A Physical Therapist Make

Physical therapists help to rehabilitate people who have had physical injuries through accidents or have disabling conditions through any physical condition that make movement difficult. There are usually two questions in the minds of people who want to become physical therapists. One is whether they would enjoy working with these patients and the other is how much does a physical therapist make?

If you would like to work helping patients who have physical disabilities and get the satisfaction of seeing that you are helping these patients with the work that you do, the question of how much a physical therapist makes would be superfluous. Just helping the patients regain their mobility and watching them get over that pain they have been suffering would be a better reward in your profession than asking the question how much does a physical therapist make?

The median salary of a physical therapist is around $74,000 a year, but you could have your own practise and if you are a skilled physical therapist with many patients make much more. But to get to be a physical therapist you have to graduate from with a masters or doctoral degree from a programme in physical therapy. The courses include biology, chemistry and physics, with further specialized courses in biomechanics, neuroanatomy, human growth and development, examination techniques and therapeutic procedures. After getting the degree you need to take national and state licensing exams. Many states require you to take continuing education courses and attend workshops to keep your license up to date.

Getting to be a physical therapist requires much dedication, the number of years you have to put into studying and the examinations you have to undergo. If you do not have a passion for helping people with disabilities overcome their disabilities and feel the satisfaction of how your work helps to better peoples lives, it would be difficult to be a good physical therapist if the only question on your mind, while getting your degree and passing the exams was how much does a physical therapist make?

A physical therapists job consists of examining the patients medical records and the patient. Testing and measuring the patients strength and range of movements and his balance and coordination. A physical therapist also has to check the patients posture, muscle performance, his breathing and motor functions. He has to then determine the patients ability to reintegrate into his work place and community after his illness or injury. He then has to form a plan of treatment, keeping in mind the purpose and the out come of the treatment.

The satisfaction of seeing a patient re enter his community and workplace and see him rehabilitated should be of more importance to you than what you would make being a physical therapist.
